NOTE: I’m writing this as I watch, so there’s no photos to accompany the commentary. I also don’t believe in spoiling the ending for people who might not have had a chance to watch the episode (oh, the era of the DVR!), so I won’t give away who wins or gets the boot. I know how bent I get when someone gives away the ending on facebook before I even get a chance to watch the show. This will just be passing commentary as I watch the show.

I think this is the one big challenge that everyone looks forward to each season. The textile design challenge!
The twist that they threw in this season is that the textile has to be inspired by a particular “next generation” entrepreneur, philanthropist, artist, expressionist, etc. Each designer met with their own “muse” to garner inspiration.
Helen, for someone who was raised by artists (her muse is an artist) and did so well in the last challenge is really struggling with her fabric. Patterns simply aren’t her forte, and it’s brought her to tears. Like Tim points out, not every challenge is going to fall in her comfort zone. Stop obsessing!
Justin is creating a silhouette that is strangely similar to the dress that got him sent home last time. Let’s see if it plays out in a similar vein?
Alexander’s outfit gets pointed out by Tim as being “clerical”, which Alexander says falls in line with his last name (“Pope”) and was deliberate. It’s a look I’m interested in seeing the completed outfit – it’s a shape that piques my interest.
Bradon: “My last name is McDonald, and I don’t make dresses out of french fries” – I nearly died!
Dom has done exceptional – as usual – with her pattern. She really has an eye for prints and colour. That’s been apparent since before the first episode, when they were doing to home interviews and closet raids.
(Commercial for House of Versace. I am absolutely watching this!)
There’s a lot of questionable looks heading down the runway – sloppy looks. It’s kind of embarrassing. What’s worse (better?) is that their muses will be joining the designers for the runway show. This can either go incredibly well, or incredibly badly.
For the most part, nothing really stood out (to me) on the runway, except for Alexander’s and Dom’s outfits. The others just kind of fell short with me. Helen’s seemed a little… boring, which surprised me. She’s usually so avant garde.
Dom’s dress is called “runway ready”, “current” and “fashion forward”.
Bradon’s print was a hit, and his outfit “dynamic”, making it hard to pick a winner.
Alexander’s outfit was called a “landing strip” (shame, I really liked it).
They like Helen’s outfit – the one I said was ‘boring’ – but I don’t think they’ll like it enough to give her the prize.
They keep stressing “one or more” will be out. Spoiler? Perhaps. Guess we’ll have to wait and see!
